Why do we hold on to people pass their expiration date of being a part of our lives? Why is it that once we know it’s time to move on and that season has served its purpose we still hold on pass the expiration date? Think about it for a second. They place expiration dates on food for a reason. If you read closely it says, “Best if used by 04/12/18”. After that date, the food is not as fresh and can become stale or even mold. Think about that relationship you’re holding on to. Has it reached its expiration date? Has it become stale or even molded? Is God telling you it’s time to move on because that relationship is holding you back from accomplishing what you need to do in your next season?
Sometimes people hold on to us as a crutch and likewise we can do the same. We must make room for the people that are next in line that’s destined to push us to our next. Whatever your next is. Don’t allow yourself to get stuck in a cycle with people that are only meant to be in your life for a certain amount of time. It doesn’t mean you don’t love or care for them or that you are better than anyone else. It just means the relationship served its God given purpose. You will know when that “Best if used by” date is approaching or has since expired. You will know when the relationship is stale or has developed mold. Tap into that Voice Within and seek out those relationships that have expiration dates approaching or has since passed. It’s time for all of us to re-evaluate our pantries. Now don’t get me wrong, there’s some relationships that will not come with an expiration date but you will definitely know which ones they are.
Don’t you think it’s time to stop holding on and let go in order to be free?
